Where Are the 137 Grounded Qantas & Virgin Planes?
If you've visited any Australian airport in the past six months, you've probably seen all the grounded Qantas and Virgin jets parked on the runways and taxiways. They're a striking symbol of the pandemic that has shut down much of the travel and tourism industry… every grounded plane represents dozens of airline staff that have sadly been stood down or made redundant.

At the moment, only 55% of Qantas' fleet and 56% of Virgin’s planes are in active service - and that doesn't include the aircraft types both airlines have permanently retired since the start of the pandemic. So, where exactly are all the grounded planes?

AFF annual weekend gathering in Canberra (4-6 December 2020)
We're pleased to announce that AFF's 14th annual weekend gathering will go ahead as planned this year in Canberra from 4-6 December 2020!

However, due to COVID-19 restrictions in the ACT, there will be capacity limitations at each of the activities. We also realise that due to state & territory border restrictions, some AFF members that had planned to attend may unfortunately not be able to.

If you are currently planning to come along to this event, please fill out the Expression of Interest form to assist the event organisers with planning for the weekend. read more...

Planes, ferries and automobiles. Kangaroo Island in these unprecedented times

AFF Member Profile
This week we interviewed AFF member Seat0B from Canberra. Seat0B joined Australian Frequent Flyer in 2018 and has so far made 547 posts.

Q: Where did you go on your last trip?
A: My last trip wasn't really a trip - it was the 747 Farewell joyflight out of Canberra. That was an amazing nostalgic flight. My last actual trip was to the fabulous Japanese ski resorts of Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen in February 2020. We cut short our planned return via Shanghai because of the emerging coronavirus!

Q: Where will you go when the current travel bans are lifted?
A: It will be a long trip to Dubai for me to see my son who lives there.

Q: Favourite airline?
A: Qantas. I took my first overseas trip with Qantas in 1975 and I just love that feeling of being home again as soon as you step on the plane.

Q: What's one piece of advice you would give to a new AFF member?
A: Participate in this community - there is a lot of valuable information here, and the members are generous in offering help and advice, but you have to ask!

Q: Favourite thread on AFF?
A: My favourite thread is What's your favourite 747 memory? because for me the 747 was the start of a lifetime addiction to flying, and I enjoyed reading other AFFers' reminiscences as the Queen of the Skies retired.
